Whangarei, New Zealand, DEATH NOTICE:  "LIVINGSTONE - On the 26th ult. at Sidlaw, Hermitage-gardens, Edinburgh, Eliza Julia Pickering [b. 01 Jun 1819, Liverpool – d: NZ], beloved wife of the Rev. William Livingstone, senior minister of South Free Church, Kirriemuir, widow of Captain Cox, R.N., and daughter of the late William Pickering, merchant, Liverpool.

The Rev. W. Livingstone,senior minister of the South Free Church, Kirriemuir, died suddenly in Edinburgh on March 8, only a few days after his wife. He was 78 years of age, and for 46 years had been a faithful and much-esteemed minister. He also took an active part on the School Board of Kirriemuir.

"The South Free congregation in their search for a successor heard of a young minister who was acting as locum tenens of Newtyle Free Church and who had been licensed by the Free Church Presbytery of Dundee in July 1848. He was the Rev William Livingstone who had previously held an Assistantship in the Uphall Free Church in West Lothian was inducted as the congregation’s second minister in January 1849. For nearly 46 years, Rev Livingstone carried out the very varied work of the South Free Church pastorate with a great acceptance but in 1884 his health failed and arrangements were made for a colleague and successor to be appointed."
